A weekend with My Morning Jacket, Milwaukee

With fresh new May 2015 release The Waterfall and a two day weekend planned for Milwaukee, My Morning Jacket rode a dashing return to a city that never tires of the psychedelic alt-rock outfit lead by Jim James.

My Morning Jacket’s The Waterfall comes nearly four years after 2011’s Circuital, one of the band’s highest charting albums. Opening with The Waterfall‘s lead track “Believe (Nobody Knows)” followed by Circuital” was a quick sample of their most recent work, however moving on into “Wordless Chorus” for song four removed some of the energy built up early in the show.

Appearing very mysterious in live settings, and notably this one, vocalist Jim James donned a colorful cape-like jacket and sunglasses for much of night one’s set. Wandering around the stage at times, Jim James eyed up fans, aiming his guitar out over their heads in song 2 opening up during “Circuital”.

Very well-received by the sold out Riverside Theater, My Morning Jacket molded an immersive two-day weekend, weaving in much of The Waterfall with their core collection. Eyes glued to the stage, you’d be hard press to find a fan with any complaints. An eight-song encore felt more like the other half of their set, but left those not coming for night two yearning for more.

Setlist: Believe (Nobody Knows) – Circuital – I’m Amazed – Wordless Chorus – Evil Urges – Like A River – Outta My System – It Beats 4 U – Tropics – Only Memories Remain – I Will Singe You Songs – The Way That He Sings – Dancefloors – Lay Low  Encore: Wodnerful (The Way I Feel) – Steam Engine – The Bear – In Its Infancy (The Waterfall) – Victory Dance – Tourch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2 – One Big Holiday
