An evening with The Black Crowes, Milwaukee

After years of hiatus and change ups, it seems the Black Crowes are managing to hold themselves together for a tour that is getting a little attention. But isn’t it the best bands that need to take a break every once and a while? The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, WI hosted an intimate, no opener, show featuring the Black Crowes for a comfortably full and lavishly performed evening.

Their crowds might only be a handful of what they used to be at the band’s prime, but the ones that stick around matter the most. It was a different atmosphere for the band too, away from the normal summer festival they dot around the country.

While the Black Crowes opener was absent for this show, the band made up for any lost time, stretching song after song out. And as laid back as they were, Chris Robinson’s presence and energy lifted everyone. A cover of Billy Joel’s “Hush” wrapped up the set, only for the band to return for two more covers to close out the night. While this reunion and hiatus from their hiatus might only be temporary, there was no missing the appreciation from loving fans who stopped in from all around the Midwest.

Setlist: Soul Singing – Sting Me – Twice as Hard – Evergreen – Good Friday – Mellow Down Easy – What Is Home – (Only) Halfway to Everywhere – Title Song – Wiser Time – Thorn in My Pride – She Talks to Angels – Remedy – Hard to Handle – Hush – Don’t Do It – Boomer’s Story
