Fiasco at the Fest!
Wednesday, June 28th marked the opening day of Summerfest, coined The World’s Largest Music Festival, and kicked off their 45th year of bringing the hottest acts in music to the lakefront of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Having previously run a promotion to give away 45,000 free tickets for opening day to celebrate their 45th year running, a lot of people were expected to show up. Not only were they coming down to Summerfest to use their free tickets, good only for opening day, but also to see first day acts like Lupe Fiasco, We Came As Romans, The Dirty Heads, Kool and the Gang, and on the main stage, Rascal Flatts.
Although illuminoise couldn’t cover them all thanks to the three song rule, we did get a chance to grab one of our favorites, Lupe Fiasco. We were able to cover Lupe way back in September of 2011 at UWM’s Pantherfest, so we were really excited to see him again since he puts on such a great show.
As always, Lupe drew a massive crowd to the Summerfest grounds. It wasn’t as large as last year’s big Harley Davidson rap act, Wiz Khalifa, but a couple thousand more people and it would’ve been there.
Lupe’s energetically charged music and talent was all there along with the rambunctious crowd who knew every word to every song. Lupe was all smiles thanks to Milwaukee always being a more than entertaining crowd.
A nice mix of his most recent major release “Lasers” mixed in with some of his older stuff was great, but there were a few songs from “Lasers” that I still would’ve loved to hear…and a few from “The Cool”.
None the less I was still happy with his show. Really energetic and he showed he was really happy to be in Milwaukee again.
