G. Love & Special Sauce share the ‘Love’ with Milwaukee
On the tails of a new album released last fall, G. Love & Special Sauce returned to a familiar venue in the Brew City, the Northern Lights Theater. An intimate seated setting with room to dance complimented the incredible amount of organized groovy racket just a three-piece can put out.
“If you’re wondering where I got my hat, I got it from Milwaukee” G. Love touted as he chatted about his visit to The Brass Rooster haberdashery on the East Side of Milwaukee earlier in the day.
Known for his very own concoction of hip-hop blues, G. Love dials his tone in with a screaming harmonica, steel guitar slide solos, and almost nu-Americana vibes. Completed with Special Sauce, the trio forge a distinct sound not often heard elsewhere.
Most songs, G. Love can be seen stomping his feet from his chair, however “Back To Boston” had him up and around, inviting the horn section of the opener RITE.
Swapping guitars a few times along with his style kept things fresh, often breaking out some mean, mean slide skills almost nearly as spicy as his harmonica break downs.
The trio’s Milwaukee set featured a healthy blend from Love Saves the Day including “Dis Song”, “New York City”, and “Muse” with touches of other albums filling in the gaps.
