Jason Derulo fires up On The Waterfront
Continuing in its 28th consecutive year, Rockford, IL’s On the Waterfront, brought some of the hottest stars in music to the streets that line the Rock river. On the Friday of the festival OTW featured a headline performance by Jason Derulo which attracted thousands of screaming fans. Though the performance was great, his timeliness was not. Having taken the stage almost 40 minutes behind schedule, Jason Derulo kept fans wondering when he would show.
The tardiness became apparent when the opening band Dot Dot Dot played well into the time slot of Jason Derulo as well as a local DJ trying to keep fans engaged while Jason Derulo was finding his way to the stage. Although late, his signature dancing and serenading voice made up for the delay giving the crowd what they had been waiting for. As far as performance, Jason Derulo was okay but could have been a little more energetic.
As far as I could tell he was not using auto-tune, which tends to be the norm for live hip-hop music, but had his share of prerecorded bits which is understandable because it is very hard to sing and dance at the same time. Many fans claimed that this year’s lineup has been the best Rockford has seen, which shows that OTW has a promising future.
