Summerfest continues with a ‘Big Bang’

Continuing into its second week, Summerfest kicked off the first of July with its annual Big Bang fireworks display. Originally scheduled for opening day and being postponed for another two, Summerfest decided to start the second week with the legendary show.

In an attempt to bring up numbers for the historically low attended second week opener, the Big Bang drew thousands to Milwaukee’s lakefront for a staple of summer fun in Brew City. One Republic headlined the festival though did suffer from a few empty sections in the Marcus Amphitheater.

Attendance did seem to be down yet many did flock to headlining ground performers Nas and Kip Moore. Hip-hop artist Nas entertained by celebrating 2o years of Illmatic, his highly successful debut album. Joking about how many in the crowd weren’t even born when the album released on cassette, Nas brought us way back with hits like “N.Y. State of Mind” and “Life’s a Bitch”.

Summerfest continues through Sunday featuring headlining artists Dave Matthews Band, Zac Brown Band, Motley Crue, Fall Out Boy & Paramore, and Usher. Additional ground headliners can be found on summerfest.com.
