Weezer, Glass Animals play Big Snow Show 10

Glass Animals made their second visit to the Brew City for a not so snowy, although sold out, Big Snow Show X.

Continuing into its 10th year, the annual 102.1 Christmas bash featured Weezer, Glass Animals, X-Ambassadors, and BØRNS for Thursday night’s full house, setting off a trio of shows into the weekend.

Glass Animals’ quick set list covered the basics – “Black Mambo”, “Gooey”, “Toes”, “Pools” etc. Although fans likely got what they’d come for, Glass Animals billed as a dual headliner for the first night of Big Snow Show 10 could have upped the intensity to match their previous early summer show at the Riverside Theater just down the road. I wouldn’t go as far to say they failed to deliver, but it was a little less lackluster than the rest of the impressive 2015 tour.

Can’t blame them too much though, these stacked shows often leave little room for chit-chat and none for climbing around the balconies. However, that didn’t stop their signature cover of “Love Lockdown”. “We’ve always had amazing shows here, thank you for your support, we’ll see you next year”.

Big Snow Show X marks the final performance for Glass Animals in 2015, as surprising as that may sound with the plethora of Christmas bash-type performances dotting the US – Glass Animals’ flowing groovy rhythms possibly boding well for those or New Year’s Eve shows.

In a sense, Weezer took over to close the night where X Ambassadors left off – an alt pop rock with a bit more edge than Glass Animals is aligned to deliver.

Collected, tight, clean, Weezer was on point from the start. A timeless take on alternative rock, they’ve aged well over their many releases since their 1994 start. Having a bit more to fall back on than Glass Animals, Weezer could be recognized by even the most casual of listeners. Their hits “Beverly Hills”, “Island in the Sun”, “Say It Isn’t So”, “Beverly Hills”, among many others, topped the setlist following years of topping 102.1’s playlists. We’ve all heard them, and Weezer’s Big Snow Show performance wasn’t the full measure their staples needed sound their best.

102.1s Big Snow Show X will continue into the weekend with Of Monsters and Men headlining Friday and Panic! At the Disco on Saturday.
